Recent move puts roster spot in jeopardy for veteran Buffalo Bills players

Tyler Bass has been an adventure, and not a good one. With all due respect to the human being, his job performance has not been up to the NFL standard this year.

Buffalo's front office, after spending the preseason and early weeks defending him, is apparently starting to change their tune. Buffalo has signed kicker Lucas Havrisik to their practice squad, applying more pressure to Bass to turn his performance around.

Monday Night Football's performance against the New York Jets was the latest mark in a concerning season-long trend for Bass. On Monday, Bass shanked an ugly extra point attempt, while also missing a makable field goal from 47 yards out.

General manager Brandon Beane knows that the kicking production needs to be better.

"T-Bass would be the first to tell you that it hasn't gone the way he would like it or, and quite frankly, the way we would like it," Beane said. "The great thing about Tyler is we've had a conversation with him and he's very aware. He knows we're working out people, and he understands that it's a production business. You know, we have to make decisions for what's best for the team."

"We want nothing more than for Tyler to be our guy. We signed him, we felt he had really earned the deal that we paid him an offseason ago, but it's a production business, and he knows he's got to make those kicks. Sean [McDermott] said that. No one's hiding from it. But at the same time, he hasn't done as well as he or we had hopes, so we've got to continue to look and monitor. If there's a better option we have to turn to, then we'll do that."

Bass is on thin ice. I'd expect him to get another opportunity, but if another field goal fails to go through the uprights on Sunday, it could be the last game for Bass in a Buffalo Bills uniform.
