Urban Meyer shared the logical message he sent Ryan Day after Ohio State lost to Oregon

Anytime you lose at Ohio State it is going to feel like the sky is falling for a few days, that is just how it goes. Losing a close one in the Big Ten and it may feel a little worse. That is exactly what happened last weekend when the Buckeyes fell to Oregon.

It was a close 32-31 loss for Ohio State in a game where they had a shot to win it at the end . Quarterback Will Howard attempted to slide as the clock was expiring but was just a tad late before Ohio State could call a timeout to kick a field goal.

Following the tough loss, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer shared that he texted Ryan Day after the game.

“I actually texted coach Day this, ‘You went on the road, to one of the most difficult environments. I never played there, but I coached there. I hear it’s one of the most difficult places. You took the team’s best shot and you were seriously one yard away from winning that game’,” Meyer said on the latest episode of The Triple Option.

The Buckeyes did not play well at all and lost by just a point in a hostile environment as Meyer pointed out. Giving up nearly 500 yards of offense is tough, but the Buckeyes were still able to have a chance to win the game.

A big difference was the turnover battle and Ohio State lost that. A Quinshon Judkins fumble was the only turnover in the game by either team. Ohio State’s defense could have covered up a lot of their mistakes with a forced turnover or two.

Meyer coached in plenty of big games at Ohio State and was the one that brought Day to Columbus. The two still have a relationship and Meyer remains a resource for Day.

Despite the tough loss for the Buckeyes, everything remains in front of them . They play Nebraska next week, then will have another very tough matchup at Penn State. Ohio State still has their goal of beating Michigan there for the taking, as well as getting to the Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff.

Ohio State will use this bye week to get better, then they’ll host Dylan Raiola (one-time Ohio State commit) and the Cornhuskers. In the meantime, it sounds as if Meyer’s message to Day was logical.
