Ohio State’s Ryan Day has a chance to get a big win off the field that’ll leave Georgia’s Kirby Smart shaking his head

The matchup against Georgia in the College Football Playoff likely is something that Ryan Day still thinks about often. Ohio State had a chance to win the game and could have gone on to win a National Championship, instead, they didn’t.

Though it is not on the football field, Day and his staff have a chance to pick up a big recruiting win over Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.

Yesterday, five-star 2026 quarterback Jared Curtis pulled his commitment from Georgia and announced that he would be reopening the process again .

Curtis is the No. 6 player in the class of 2026 and the No. Q quarterback, according to 247 Sports Composite. The elite quarterback prospect out of Tennessee de-committed from Georgia back in March. Since then, USC is the only other team to have offered him.

Ohio State is very much in on 2026 QB Jared Curtis

Curtis was seen as an Ohio State lean prior to when he committed to Georgia. As of lately, the Buckeyes have continued recruiting him and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is playing a key role in the recruitment. Ohio State is one of multiple schools that are seriously in the running for Curtis.

Ohio State has just one commitment in 2026 and that is the No. 3 player in the country Chris Henry Jr. The way that the Buckeyes recruit wide receivers and their offensive system are both attractive to the top quarterback prospects.

Will Howard is the team’s starter this season. Next year we very well could see Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz decide on whether or not they want to stick around. There is a chance that Ohio State has an open quarterback competition between Julian Sayin, Air Noland, and incoming 2025 quarterback Tavien St. Clair.

St. Clair is a top five-star 2025 quarterback who will have a possible chance to play right away . Sayin and Noland are both former elite quarterback prospects out of high school. The one negative for coming to Columbus for Curtis is that he can’t be promised playing time right away. St. Clair will be in Columbus through 2027 at the very least.

Still, the Buckeyes are very much in this recruitment, and getting him back on campus will be key. Ohio State and Day owe Smart and Georgia a loss in some form, this could be just one.

These teams very well could see each other come January, which makes this all that much more interesting. Day has recruited quarterbacks at an elite level in Columbus, we’ll see if he can do that again here.
