The Minnesota Vikings are going to need all hands on deck to defeat the Detroit Lions and they are likely to have one of their best players.
During an appearance on Good Morning Football , NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said that Aaron Jones is likely to play in Sunday's NFC North divisional battle.
"Let's get to some of the injuries for this game, which should be an absolutely awesome game. One that I would say at this point is likely to include Aaron Jones, the star running back for the Minnesota Vikings. Went down with a, thought it was a hip injury. Turns out it was a hamstring injury. Obviously, they had the bye week last week, that helped. Didn't practice early in the week, but was at practice yesterday. This actually goes all the way back to the London game. Sounds like you hurt it in pregame, and tried to play through it. And the teams that you know, it's a long season, let's get you off. It does seem like it's in a good place. So I would say at this point, likely Aaron Jones is out there."
Jones has been a very important part of the Vikings' offense so far this season. Over 71 carries, Jones has ran for 350 yards at just under 5.0 yards per carry. He also has the second-highest success rate of his career at 60.6%, a shade under the 62.0% he posted on 142 carries in 2023.
The real element with Jones' importance comes from a team perspective. According to Sports Info Solutions, the Vikings have an EPA/play 0.21 points higher when he is in the game than when he is off the field, and that rises up to 0.25 when the Vikings run the ball. His presence is much-needed when it comes to the Vikings trying to get the win and take a stranglehold on the NFC North.
Friday's practice will ultimately give us the entire answer, but this is a great sign moving forward.
