The top two offensive skill players during the San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl 58 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs were Christian McCaffrey and Jauan Jennings.

McCaffrey had 160 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in the 25-22 overtime thriller, while Jennings threw the touchdown to McCaffrey and also caught a fourth-quarter receiving score of his own.

But the 49ers will be without both for the rematch of that game on Sunday.

McCaffrey is still yet to have his practiced window opened having been placed on injured reserve following the 49ers' Week 1 win over the New York Jets. The absence that was not expected at the start of this week is that of Jennings.

Jennings has missed each of the 49ers' three practices this week with a hip issue and was ruled out by Kyle Shanahan on Friday.

Shanahan said he does not expect Jennings' injury to be a long-term one, and he is hopeful the wide receiver will be able to play in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.

But the news about Jennings is offset by the confirmation from Shanahan that first-round wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will make his NFL debut against the Chiefs. Pearsall will be activated from the non-football injury list to the 53-man roster and play against Kansas City, exactly 50 days on from being shot through the chest in an attempted armed robbery in San Francisco. He is officially listed as questionable, though that is purely because his activation from the NFI list hasn't officially happened yet.

Kicker Matthew Wright was also ruled out with the dislocated shoulder he suffered in last week's win over the Seattle Seahawks, meaning the 49ers will have to use their third kicker in as many weeks and elevate Anders Carlson to the active roster.

Wright's injury is worse than expected and he will go on injured reserve. Jake Moody, whose high ankle sprain necessitated Wright's signing, is still week to week. The 49ers are hopeful he will be able to return after their Week 9 bye.

Running back Jordan Mason, who is second in the league in rushing having excelled in McCaffrey's absence, will play on Sunday with no limitations, Shanahan said. Mason suffered an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder against the Seahawks and again practiced in a blue no-contract jersey on Friday.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (wrist) does not carry an injury designation having practiced in full on Friday, while the 49ers should have a full complement of healthy interior defensive linemen on hand to face the Chiefs, with Kevin Givens (groin), Maliek Collins (knee) and Jordan Elliott (knee) all having practiced on Friday.

Givens is listed as questionable, along with cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. (pelvis).

The only player out for the Chiefs is defensive lineman Mike Danna, whose absence could aid the 49ers in their ability to run the ball against a stingy Kansas City rush defense.
