Return of a veteran defender could push another Bears player out the door ahead of the trade deadline

With the bye week coming to an end for the Chicago Bears, all eyes are on general manager Ryan Poles to see if a move will be made ahead of the November 5th trade deadline.

It's looking more and more likely that the Bears might part with a few players as opposed to adding a high end talent like they did last season.

Earlier this week, I listed five players the Bears could look to trade ahead of the deadline and whether or not a move should be made. However, a new name has joined the trade list based on a recent roster move.

On Saturday, NFL Insider Dianna Russini mentioned two Bears players specifically who could be on the move prior to the deadline. The first was obviously running back Khalil Herbert, which would be a win-win trade for both parties , and the second was defensive end Dominique Robinson.

The more I think about it, the more I could see the Bears moving on from the third-year former fifth-round pick. Robinson already was on the roster bubble going into the season and had to make a late push just to make the 53-man roster.

However, Robinson's been a healthy inactive in all six games so far this season after the team added Darrell Taylor following the final preseason game. And now Robinson is about to get pushed even further down the depth chart.

Leading up to the Bears Week 6 matchup in London, general manager Ryan Poles mentioned that the team opened the practice window for veteran defensive end Jacob Martin. Martin was placed on the injured reserve with a toe injury and missed the entire preseason after signing in Chicago this offseason.

Martin had a strong offseason with multiple players and coaches giving praise for his work ethic. Now, he's working his way back into the fold and is yet another veteran presence who can work into the defensive rotation.

“Jacob, great speed and quickness. Very athletic. He’s an excellent space player. But he’s really sturdy at the point of attack. Those types of things you really need to have,” defensive coordinator Eric Washington said during training camp . "We can anticipate his role being as a three-down defender.

"So far, as a right defensive end, he’s doing a nice job. The other thing with him is the way that he comes out early to practice every day by himself. And he just starts to mentally tune himself up to go out and put forth the kind of practice he wants to have to establish himself as the kind of rusher we need him to be.”

The Bears have already done a really good job rotating their defensive front during the game to help keep everyone fresh for critical downs and plays. As a healthy scratch, Robinson hasn't been able to see the field, even with Martin on the injured reserve.

At this point in the season, multiple teams could be looking for some reinforcements to their defensive lines. If a team is willing to give up a late round pick, the Bears should absolutely make the deal considering this is a position with plenty of depth once Martin fully returns.
