Matt LaFleur reveals Jordan Love's superpower after Packers' huge win over the Texans

Since Jordan Love took over as the starting quarterback last year, the Green Bay Packers had had some tough times in game-winning situations. Some killing interceptions happened against the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular season in 2023, for instance, and in the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers.

It was different on Sunday, when the Packers drove down the field to kick it and beat the Houston Texans 24-22 to improve to 5-2. It was a special moment for Green Bay, and head coach Matt LaFleur is proud of what Jordan Love was able to do.

"I just talked to him about it. That's his superpower, no matter what's happened, whether good or bad, he continues to fight and be resilient," LaFleur said of Love. "The moment is never too big for him. I thought that was huge for him to be able to take us all the way down the field and get an opportunity to kick a field goal. Hats off to him."

After some bad moments in 2023, being successful in these two-minute drives to win games was a big part of the offseason plan. On Sunday, it worked — despite a scare early in the drive.

"It's huge. I think that's one of the biggest areas where we tried to improve on from last year," Love revealed. "We came up short too many times in these two-minute drill situations, go win the game. So we definitely put a lot of time into it in practice, throughout training camp, OTAs, and every week. So it's definitely something that we focused on, it's good to be out there and put a drive together, get into field goal range and come up victorious."

It wasn't a clean game for Jordan Love either. Despite being productive with three touchdowns, Love also threw two interceptions — he leads the league in TDs and picks, even though he missed two games because of a knee injury.

"I thought he showed great poise, the ability to lead us down in the most critical moment," LaFleur pointed out. "Certainly two-minute was, I don't wanna say it was an issue for us, but we've had some bad things happened in some of those situations. For us to come away today with a win, a game-winning drive in a two-minute situation, that'll give us a lot of confidence moving forward."

It's a case of hard work paying off.

"We've repped these situations a lot more. It's always tough just how critical every play is in those two-minute situations," Love added. "Definitely a lot of stuff that we learned from last year, but I'm always confident that we'll go out there and be able to put a drive together. It comes down to making all those plays. I think we did a good job of doing that in this game."

They did, and a game-winning drive gave the Packers their biggest win of the season so far against a 5-1 team. Next, the Jacksonville Jaguars seem to be a more beatable opponent, and it's imperative to execute, because the schedule late in the season won't get any easier.
