Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes gives hard-hitting 49ers defender a taste of his own medicine

Patrick Mahomes is noted for being one of the most explosive QBs to ever touch NFL laces.

But through this point of his decorated tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs, most of Mahomes' jaw-dropping plays have come through the air.

As of late, however, including during Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mahomes has been held in check via the pass.

Well, he showed he can get it done with his legs just as well:

Mahomes Runs Over Safety for TD

Patrick Mahomes obliterated 49ers safety Malik Mustapha for the TD here, and it came just after he tightrope the sideline and tricked the Niners' defense into thinking he was going out of bounds.

At this point in the season, it hasn't been all peaches and cream for Mahomes or the Chiefs offense in general, as he currently boasts more interceptions than TDs.

But as Tom Brady said earlier in the day and reiterated throughout Sunday's matinee, Mahomes isn't playing MVP football, he's playing Super Bowl-winning football and that's all that matters.

"They've lost some of their weapons, and because of that, he's turned into a guy who is there to perform when it matters the most. And to him, it doesn't matter whether it's four touchdowns, he just wants to get the win and so much," said Brady. "That's ultimately how I evolved as a player. It became less about am I in the MVP race? Am I going to be a pro bowler? Am I going to be an All-Pro it came to me. Am I good enough for my team to win today? Have I evolved at a point as a player where I'm going to do what I need to do, regardless of what it takes, any given day? And that's rarefied air because that gives you a chance to improve every single week, every single year. That's the constant motivation. Was I the best player I could be for this team, regardless of circumstance, regardless of whether Rashee Rice is here or not, regardless of whether we lose a great player like Tyreek Hill? He's going to show up every day to work. He's so dependable, so consistent, and I really look forward to seeing him play today."

Brady and everyone else was in for a show, even if it wasn't the one they were expecting.
