Mike Tomlin put all his chips in on Russell Wilson earlier this week.

When it became clear that he would be starting against the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers quickly became the talk of the league, largely for the wrong reasons.

And after the first few series, it looked like the decision was going to come back to bite Tomlin.

Instead, he's taking a victory lap , and Russell Wilson ended the QB discussion after one play.

Russ to Pickens TD ends the discussion

"I think throwing that first touchdown to George [Pickens] was the moment I was like, alright there's gonna be a lot more of these," said Wilson when asked about how he knew he settled in and was here to stay. "I believe sometimes it takes that first home run, that first, double off the wall, whatever it may be, you know, obviously, it's October, so I'm talking baseball, but I just think that you put all the hard work in, and the guys are doing the work, and, at some point, it's going to turn your favor, and we did a great job. And I'm excited about our football team."

For Russ and the Steelers, the results are undeibale. Not only did he set a franchise record for most passing yards in a QBs debut, but it was the most points the Steelers scored since the end of the Big Ben era.

The ability to stretch the field was particularly notable, with George Pickens quickly becoming the biggest beneficiary of the the QB change. Pickens noted that after the game along with HC Mike Tomlin who was overly expressive compared to his typical self when asked about Russ' performance.

"I thought he was excellent," Tomlin told the media after the game regarding Russell Wilson's play. "I thought he got better as the game went on, but l'm not surprised by that. It's been a while since he's played some ball, but I thought he settled in, knocked the rust off man, and distributed the ball around and played well."

Excellent is an adjective that Coach Tomlin seldom uses, as he even recently admitted that he is hesitant in both public and private settings to compliment his players.

So it's safe barring a precipitous dropoff against the New York Giants next week, Russell Wilson is your starter.
