Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase reveals why he went Allen Iverson after his touchdown vs Browns

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase entered Week 7 with 37 career touchdowns to his name including three from postseason action. He's scored in a variety of ways in several different locations, but just like the team's losing streak in Cleveland, he's never found the end zone in Huntington Bank Field.

So when that streak broke Sunday, you knew something special would follow.

Chase caught a back-shoulder pass from Joe Burrow against Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II, who ended up on the ground after trying to tackle the NFL's leader in receiving touchdowns.

Newsome would have to stay on the ground and transform into Ty Lue as Chase decided to recreate Allen Iverson's iconic step over move on him.

The thing about stepping over your defeated opponent after making a play is that it will be remembered more than the actual play itself. The imagery of Chase looking down on Newsome before treating him like a puddle will instantly become part of Bengals lore.

So why did he do it? The answer couldn't be more simple.

"It was the perfect moment to," Chase said with a smile after the game.

Not only was Newsome on the ground, he's a member of a Browns secondary that's gone to war against Chase for the past four years. Their on-field bouts are consistently filled with aggressive play between the whistle and equally aggressive trash talk after it.

You'd be fooling yourself to think all of that didn't also come into Chase's mind when big-stepping his way after finding pay dirt.

"I told y'all before the week started a lot of trash talking was gonna be done during the game," Chase said. "So that's what took place. Had me a little excited today."

For the first time in Chase's career, he and the Bengals had the right to talk their talk and, literally, walk their walk in Cleveland. Newsome and the Browns will just have to take that.
