The Detroit Lions got a big win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. A big win that put them in first place in the NFC and the NFC North. There were winners and losers from this game, here's who stood out:
Winners
Jared Goff
Every week you think "maybe this will be the week that Goff slows down a little bit" and every week you see him just keep plugging along at an MVP level. It's crazy to watch a guy complete 88% of his passes in a game, it's crazier to see him complete 84.5% of his passes over the course of four games.
Isaac Ukwu
A winner for the second straight week. Ukwu played 34 snaps on Sunday and he made some plays in this game. The biggest one won't show up on the stat sheet, but it showed how smart he is. The Vikings ran a play in which Aaron Jones was supposed to get the ball, Ukwu caught onto the play and then just went and stood next to him and killed the play. That's a veteran level move.
Jack Campbell
Campbell balled out on Sunday. He was killing it in the run stopping game. He had five tackles in the game and almost all of them were stopping a run short or for no gain at all. He also chipped in a sack on Darnold as well. Just really good stuff for the second year guy.
Brian Branch
I've been saying all season that Brian Branch is putting up an All-Pro season, now I'm changing my tune. I think it's bigger than that. This is a Defensive Player of the Year award winning season. He had four tackles, two pass breakups and a pick.
Terrion Arnold
You really didn't hear Terrion Arnold's name on Sunday. Usually when you don't hear a corners name a lot, it's because he locked down his side of the field and didn't get targeted a lot. I think that's what happened in this one. He was on Jordan Addison duty and Addison had a quiet day outside of his one big 51-yard catch. He had 15 yards beyond that. The other reason you didn't hear his name is because he went a second straight week without a penalty.
Ben Johnson
Analysts kept calling this game a chess match between Ben Johnson and Brian Flores. Johnson won this round.
Losers
Jameson Williams
The Vikings were ultra prepared for Williams this week. They never let him get open and he wound up only getting targeted one time in this game. He caught the ball, but got hit immediately for a 4-yard loss.
Kayode Awosika
He was so good against the Seahawks. The expectation was that he'd roll in this game and be just like that. He instead had three penalties called on him in the first quarter alone. He did settle in after that, but penalties hurt, so he's got to go in this section. He's still a good backup guard though.
Brian Flores
The man loves to blitz on Jared Goff and Goff beats up him for it every single time. Maybe the next game he won't do it.
Officials
The officials didn't cost anyone a game or anything like that, but they were just way too strict in this game. It felt like there was constant stoppage in this game and that maybe if there wasn't, it might have been even more fun than it already was.
