Michigan spins the quarterback carousel again, starting new quarterback against Michigan State Spartans in Week 9

The Michigan Wolverines have reportedly made the decision to change their starting quarterback in their Week 9 matchup against the Michigan State Spartans. According to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Wolverines are turning to Davis Warren to be under center this weekend.

This news is somehow both surprising yet unsurprising. They needed to make a change after Jack Tuttle's disastrous performance against Illinois, but returning to Warren wasn't on the minds of many.

The offense looked horrendous for most of the game last week, particularly through the air. Jack Tuttle frequently made mistakes, turning the ball over twice and barely moving the ball forward outside of garbage time.

In his two starts this season, Tuttle completed 30 of his 50 passes for 306 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.

The offense briefly looked competent against Washington when Tuttle first saw action, but fell apart shortly after.

Warren started the first three games of the season for the Wolverines. In his action as a starter, he completed 66.7% of his passes for 444 yards and two touchdowns across his three starts this year. However, in his last game against Arkansas State, he threw three interceptions in a little over a quarter of action. After committing six turnovers in three games, Warren was benched in favor of Alex Orji, who was in turn benched in favor of Jack Tuttle.

This quarterback "battle" is still ongoing, and its only casualties have been us viewers.

Across all seven games, Michigan's quarterbacks have completed 61.2% of their passes for just 898 yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Ironically, the only quarterback who has more touchdown passes than interceptions is the worst thrower of the bunch in Alex Orji. Their longest pass of the season went for a whopping 33 yards.

I'm not sure what a move back to Warren necessarily accomplishes here, but it feels obvious the Wolverines' coaching staff is desperate to find something on offense with the number of winnable games running out.
