Hot temperatures expected to continue through mid-week
Significant cooldown in the forecast by the weekend. – High temperatures are expected to linger in Atascadero through Wednesday, according to the latest forecast from Weather Underground. Monday’s forecasted high temperature is 97, followed by 97 on Tuesday, and 94 on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to cool slightly by Thursday, with a forecasted high of 92. Friday’s forecasted high is 88. A significant cooldown is in the forecast by the weekend, with an expected high of 84 on Saturday and 83 on Sunday.
Obituary of Dave Millan, 68
– Dave Millan tragically and unexpectedly passed away at the age of 68 on June 12, 2024, while celebrating his 45th wedding anniversary in Maui with his beloved wife Carrie. Dave was born in 1955 in Mojave, California and was the second of six children. He was raised in Orange County, California, and one of his proudest childhood moments was playing shortstop and relief pitcher in the 1968 Little League World Series where his team, Bolsa Little League, came in 2nd place out of the U.S. teams and 3rd place in world. He also represented Bolsa at the Senior League Baseball World Series in Gary, Indiana in 1970.
Candidate filing for November election opens July 15
– The San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office announced this week that the candidate filing period for the Nov. 5, 2024, General Election opens on Monday, July 15, and runs through Friday, Aug. 9. Anyone interested in running for office must complete the necessary paperwork by 5 p.m. on Aug. 9. This deadline will extend to Wednesday, Aug. 14, if the incumbent for an office does not file by the Aug. 9 deadline.

Sticker design contest for students in grades 3-6 and grades 7-12 – The SLO County Elections Office announced its first-ever “I Voted” sticker design contest for students in grades 3-6 and grades 7-12. The winning design in each division will be printed and distributed at polling places throughout San Luis Obispo County and featured on the Clerk-Recorder’s website and in community outreach for the Nov. 5 General Election.
Colony Park Community Center offers summer evening sports program
– The Colony Park Community Center offers summer evening activities with a drop-in schedule. The programs run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday through Thursday. On Mondays, the center hosts all-ages volleyball for $2 per person. Tuesdays feature adult basketball, also priced at $2 per person. Wednesday evenings are dedicated to adult dodgeball at $3 per person. The week rounds out with family basketball on Thursdays, returning to the $2 per person rate.

Crews contain multiple fires in North County Tuesday
– Fire crews extinguished multiple fires in North County Tuesday. Highway 41 West in between Morro Bay and Atascadero was closed Tuesday afternoon after a brush fire ignited in the area. The fire was just past San Gabriel Road near the three bridges area. This fire fire began around 4:11 p.m. It was contained shortly after. It grew to about three-quarters of an acre, according to reports. The cause was under investigation. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Two injured in Morro Bay stabbing
– Morro Bay Police Department officers responded to the 1700 block of Main Street underneath the Highway 1 overpass on Friday at 9:08 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Officers located one involved party suffering from multiple stab wounds. With assistance from SLO SO deputies and CA State Parks officers, a second involved party was found in the Taco Bell parking lot, also with a stab wound. Both subjects were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
