A Mississippi man was arrested on a felony DUI charge after he attempted to flee from deputies who were trying to make a traffic stop.

According to reports, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, a Lafayette County deputy was attempting to pull over William David Pettit, 41, of Abbeville, for a traffic stop; however, Pettit drove off from the deputy and ended up turning into a residence on County Road 139. Pettit exited the vehicle and ran. The deputy pursued Pettit, caught him, and placed him in custody.

Pettit was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was charged with felony fleeing, DUI 4th or greater, and several misdemeanor offenses.

His bond has not been set due to charges pending with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
