SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday identified the teenage driver who died in a fiery police pursuit crash late Monday night, leading to the death of a San Diego Police officer and leaving a fellow officer critically injured.

According to the medical examiner's office, at around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 26, 16-year-old Edgar Giovanny Oviedo was driving a BMW sedan eastbound on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard when he laterally collided with a San Diego Police Department patrol vehicle that was northbound at the intersection at Doliva Drive.

The DMV confirmed to ABC 10News Thursday afternoon that Oviedo does not have a driver's license.

Paramedics who responded to the scene provided life-saving measures while transporting Oveido to a local hospital, but he was died after arrival.

The driver of the police vehicle, 30-year-old officer Austin Machitar , passed away at the scene. The passenger, 27-year-old officer Zach Martinez, was hospitalized with serious injuries.

SDPD officials have said the BMW initially fled other officers who tried to pull the driver over for speeding.

Where do people even get the idea that running from the police is even an option. Especially at such a young age. Today, these kids have no respect for anyone. Remember the two teenagers that recorded themselves laughing when they hit and killed a random guy that was out riding his bike in Vegas and turned to be a retired police chief.
