    ECISD approves new compensation plan, retention incentive amid budget deficit woes

    ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – On Tuesday, Ector County ISD Trustees voted unanimously to approve the 2024-2025 Compensation Plan, which includes a three percent one-time retention incentive for full-time employees who return for the school year, in lieu of a pay raise amid a significant budget deficit .

    ECISD said the remaining ESSER 3 federal funds will allow the district to do this for its employees by freeing up fund balance for this incentive next year. The incentive will be three percent of base pay, to be paid in the fall semester.

    The average teacher amount will be $1,950, the average hourly amount will be $930, and the minimum retention incentive will be $ $500. This incentive will not count toward the Teacher Retirement System benefits.

    The district said this year’s compensation plan is a new Teacher Resident Salary Schedule based on the state’s new Resident Enhanced Certification, which goes into effect in September.

    ECISD said this is in an effort to attract highly trained, highly skilled, and highly effective teachers into the profession by offering an accelerated salary schedule for teachers who have come through residency programs and achieve the Resident Enhanced Certification.

    The school district said this is the first salary schedule of its kind in Texas.
