HOWARD COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Big Spring man facing two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault was convicted and sentenced earlier this month following a brief escape from court.

According to court documents, during the trial, Morgan reportedly ran out of the back door of the courtroom and tried to escape custody as he ran through downtown Big Spring. He was found hiding behind some dumpsters near the courthouse and was recaptured and returned to the courthouse for trial, however, during his escape attempt, an officer was injured. Morgan now faces one count of Escape Causing Bodily Injury.

As the trial continued, on Wednesday, July 24, 43-year-old Marces Morgan was convicted on two counts of aggravated sexual assault in the 118 th District Court. The felony conviction is punishable by a sentence of 5-99 years or life in prison; court officials said jurors considered Morgan’s previous criminal history before sentencing him to 40 years in prison on each charge; these sentences will run concurrently.
