MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Texas Department of Transportation will be resuming paving work on Big Spring Avenue on Monday, as part of a nearly $19 million project that began in August 2023. The project is scheduled to be completed in October 2024.

TxDOT said work is scheduled to resume on Monday, August 5. Work will be completed in one-week phases, allowing one lane of traffic to remain open in each direction.

    • Phase one: West Wadley Avenue to West Hamby Avenue
    • Phase two: West Hamby Avenue to West Indiana Avenue
    • Phase three: West New York Avenue to Interstate 20
    • Phase four: Interstate 20 to West New York Avenue
    • Phase five: West Indiana Avenue to West Hamby Avenue
    • Phase six: West Hamby Avenue to West Wadley Avenue
    • Phase seven: West Wadley Avenue to 600 feet north of Loop 250, near the cemetery.

Paving preparation work is expected to be completed overnight while paving will be completed during the day. TxDOT said this will help to minimize impacts for drivers while keeping the project on track for a timely completion. Final paving surface will begin by phase four.
