TEXARKANA, Tx. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — A Texarkana woman was arrested for allegedly embezzling more than $700,000 from her employer throughout her twelve-year employment, stated Texarkana Texas Police Department on Wednesday.

Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) stated that in mid-2023, a local business reported that its accounting firm had discovered some financial discrepancies in their books and suspected Melissa Egger, 45, of being responsible.

They detailed that Egger had worked as their bookkeeper since 2011 and later took on additional responsibilities as office manager.

‘During that time, she was considered a trusted employee who exercised day-to-day control over the business’s finances. She was terminated from her job shortly after the discrepancies were discovered.’

Detective Warren Smith obtained a warrant for her arrest and arranged for Egger to turn herself in yesterday.

Egger was then booked into the Bi-State Jail, and her bond was set at $100,000.
