Inaugural Community Garage Sale looks to prepare families for new school year

PECOS, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Reeves County Civic Center recently hosted the inaugural Community Garage Sale, an event designed to support local families and students as they get ready for the new school year.

On Saturday, August 17, the Civic Center welcomed community members from all walks of life, with a focus on providing essential back-to-school items at affordable prices. Gently used items contributed by generous local vendors were available for purchase, ensuring every student could start the school year equipped for success.

“This event embodies the spirit of community,” said Marisa Florez, the event coordinator and a dedicated local realtor. “Our goal was to create a space where people could find necessary school supplies without financial strain, while also fostering a sense of togetherness and mutual support.”

The Community Garage Sale was also a respite from the heat for vendors, offering a cool, safe environment to showcase their items.

“I’m thrilled with the turnout and the positive impact we’ve seen,” Florez remarked. “Our hope is to expand this event in the coming years, drawing in more participants and offering even greater support to our local families.”
