ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The West Texas Food Bank recently received a Blue Impact grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. West Texas Food Bank said the grant will help to fund senior drops and fresh produce for those across the counties it serves.

The grant recognizes the important role of local organizations in fostering positive change, tackling underlying factors that influence health, including socio-economic challenges, and promoting economic opportunities.

“We are so grateful to have corporate partners like Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. This award will help us reach more seniors with fresh produce. We know there is stress in our senior community with the cost of groceries, gas, & the cost of living so to have Blue Cross and Blue Shield come in and help us to provide all the produce that is needed for them is really special. We can’t say thank you enough,” said Libby Stephens, CEO of the West Texas Food Bank.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has awarded more than $25 million in grants to community organizations across the state since 2011, according to a release from the Food Bank, touching the lives of millions of Texas children and families.

“Blue Impact grants help pave the way for healthier futures for children and families across Texas,” said Sheena Payne, director of BCBSTX community affairs. “We are proud to collaborate with this year’s recipients and look forward to witnessing the impact of their innovative programs on the communities we both serve.
