PERMIAN BASIN (KMID/KPEJ) – Gas prices are down across West Texas for the Labor Day holiday, which is expected to be a busy weekend at Midland International Air and Space Port.

Ector County is seeing some of the lowest prices in the state with an average of $2.87 per gallon. Howard County is seeing a break at the pump as well, at $2.86 a gallon. Midlanders, though, are paying a little more at $2.91 on average.

Experts said fluctuations remain possible due to holiday travel demand. However, fuel prices are expected to continue on a downward trend heading into September. On Thursday, Texas’s average gas prices are sitting at more than 40 cents less per gallon compared to the national average.

These lower gas prices come as travel is up for the year at the Midland International Air and Space Port, and another expected busy weekend ahead for the Labor Day holiday.

Travel at MAF is up 32 percent on Thursday, when compared to 2023. Southwest is operating the most flights out of the airport. Parking revenues also have increased at the airport, with almost seven million dollars collected so far this year.

On a single day at MAF this week, 144 people flew out of the airport. In 2023, 123 people flew out of MAF, with that number dropping to 116 people in 2022.

The Transportation Security Administration is continuing to remind residents to have plenty of time to spare at the airport. Travelers should also ensure they have everything needed, such as your ID and boarding pass. You can make sure you stay updated on the latest for your flight through your airline’s app.
