ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Odessa College will be hosting its third annual car show on Saturday, in support of local auto tech students and the community.

OC said this year’s events include 150 to 200 vehicles in 41 different classes of vehicles on display for everyone’s enjoyment. Classes of vehicles include classic and modern vehicles, muscle cars and low-riders, imports, SUVs, trucks, and more.

“This is our third year to have this community event, and it has grown every year. The vision for the auto diesel technology program and the OC Sewell Auto Tech facility has been to benefit the general public and the students in our program. This event is one of the ways that we do that,” said Auto Diesel Technology Department Chair Rob Turner.

“We are fortunate to have community partners such as Sewell Family of Companies, Rogers Ford of Midland, Warren CAT, Summit Fleet, Chevron Fab Lab, and others who support our students, graduates and the program. They also work together generously to cover all costs of the Car Show, so that all of the proceeds may go to the Elijah Barrera Memorial Scholarship for our students,” added Turner.

Elijah, a member of the first group of the Automotive Student Service Education Training program, graduated in May 2022. Elijah was then involved in a motorcycle accident on the following Sunday and died. His fellow students suggested a scholarship that was to be presented at the first OC Car Show in August 2022 be named in honor of Elijah.

Community partners have since donated to grow the scholarship, with any current or future students of the auto diesel program being eligible to apply for the scholarship through the OC Foundation.

Representatives from Odessa College, community partners, and other companies and organizations, such as Odessa Fire Rescue, will be available to speak to attendees about opportunities available to students and graduates in their fields.

The third annual Odessa College Car show will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 21 at Odessa College Sewell Auto Tech, located at 2425 East 8 th Street. You can learn more about the scholarship and OC’s auto tech program on the Odessa College website .
