MIDLAND/ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Chevron recently announced a partnership to distribute grants focused on funding organizations supporting youth in the Midland and Odessa area.

During its first year, the Chevron Texas Rangers Community Grant Program said it will distribute $50,000 in grants to support local non-profits, schools, and municipalities that provide meaningful programming to children through educational curriculum, after-school programming, or youth sport initiatives.

“We are proud to join Chevron in making an impact on the Midland-Odessa region through this first-ever grant program,” said Karin Morris, Senior VP of Community Impact and Executive Director of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. “This marks an exciting step forward in supporting local organizations, and we are thrilled to see these grants begin to make a difference in the community.”

Through extensive review and consideration, Casa de Amigos, First Tee – West Texas, Midland Junior Baseball, Society of Professional Engineers – Permian Basin Section, and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Midland were selected to receive the inaugural grants. A check presentation pre-game ceremony will be honoring the organizations at the Rangers-Mariners game on Saturday, September 21.

“Chevron proudly supports non-profit organizations and schools that are empowering youth in the communities where we operate,” said Nicole Barber, public and government affairs manager for Chevron’s Mid-Continent business unit. “It’s an honor to partner with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation to expand our support for youth in West Texas through this new grant program. Congratulations to all the grant recipients.”

According to a release from the Texas Rangers, Casa De Amigos will use the funds to support STEM/STEAM youth education programming. First Tee – West Texas will use the funds to support youth programming. Midland Junior Baseball will use the funds for playing surface upgrades and youth programming. The Society of Professional Engineers’ Permian Basin Section will use the funds to empower local STEM teachers to inform their students of the opportunities available to them in the oil and natural gas industry. Young Women’s Leadership Academy will use the funds for its newly established athletics program.
