Wednesday night incident ends in arrest in west Midland

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Midland man was arrested Wednesday after investigators said he allegedly assaulted a woman and then threatened to harm himself and responding officers amid a standoff.

According to a news release, around 8:40 p.m. on October 2, officers responded to a disturbance with weapons in the 4300 block of Storey Avenue. At the scene, officers found an injured woman who said she’d been strangled and assaulted by a family member. The woman was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

“As officers were responding, the suspect made threats of harm to himself and to responding officers,” MPD said.

Because of those threats, more MPD personnel responded to the scene, including a negotiator, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

54-year-old Corey Ritchie was booked into the Midland County Detention Center on one count of Assault Family Violence Impeding Breath. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the victim’s medical evaluation.
