MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The City of Midland Parks and Recreation Department is working to eliminate a potentially harmful algae that was found at Wadley Baron Park.

Officials said a blue-green algae bloom was detected and can produce toxins that are dangerous to both humans and animals.

Parkgoers have been advised to take the following precautions:

    • Avoid contact with the water in the affected areas, including swimming and wading
    • Keep pets away from the water to prevent accidental ingestion or exposure.
    • Do not fish in the contaminated water, as the toxins can accumulate in fish tissue

Symptoms of exposure may include skin irritation, nausea, and respiratory issues. If residents or their pets come into contact with the water, wash thoroughly and seek medical attention if symptoms occur.

The City of Midland is working to address the situation and will provide updates as soon as the water is deemed safe.
