ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Facebook users have reported seeing firetrucks and flames near the site of a fire that destroyed a chemical storage business last week in northwest Odessa.

According to a post, residents in the area of 81st Street and West County Road reported hearing popping noises, similar to fireworks, and saw flames near the remains of Permian Basin Storage, where last week’s fire broke out. Other residents also reported smelling a stronger chemical smell in the air.

We’ve reached out to the City for more information, but have not yet received a response.

On July 23, Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a fire at Permian Basin Storage; crews battled the fire for hours and remained on the site for days putting out hotspots. The site has since been deemed a “nuisance” by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality and residents have been advised to avoid drinking the water until they’ve had their private wells tested and until cleanup efforts have been completed .
