    First Alert Day | Level 2 risk today; strong storms, damaging winds possible

    Severe storms could pop up across central North Carolina on Sunday.

    There's a level 2 risk in place for the Sandhills, Wake County and other areas east of Interstate 85.

    The beginning of the day will be pleasant, with no rain and temperatures in the upper 80s. But the afternoon and evening brings with it the possibility of storms; the best chance for severe weather is between 3 and 10 p.m.

    The storms will be moving in from the west, bringing frequent lightning and heavy downpours. The main threat for damage with these storms is strong wind.

    FIRST ALERT DOPPLER NET RADAR

    Locally heavy downpours are possible however widespread flash flooding is not expected. Most areas can expect to receive between .25 - .5 inches of rainfall, with localize rain in some areas reaching up to an inch.

    The storms should move out by midnight, although some stragglers could remain through the overnight hours. Monday will be partly cloudy, warm and humid with highs in the upper 80s.

    Tuesday through Friday will be an incredible stretch of weather in August. Highs will be in the low 80s and humidity will be low.
