Millbrook throttles Garner, 31-6; full list of HS scores here

Millbrook at Garner highlighted Friday night's slate of high school football.

In a battle of unbeaten teams, Millbrook's Wildcats throttled the Trojans on their home field, 31-6.

"The bottom line is, we understand how important it is to play in here," Garner head coach Deron Donald said before the game. "We're not supposed to lose at home. Millbrook is a great program, I know they're going to come in ... our guys understand what's at stake, how vital this is, how important this is, and so our job is to protect the home turf."

Even though it's early in the season, Donald said it was like a playoff environment.

Noting that the history between Millbrook and Garner was "deep" and "rich," he expected a packed stadium for this key early matchup.

"At the end of the day, we expect to be 1-0, we always say 1-0, so tonight we're going to do what we're supposed to do to try to come out with a win," Donald said.

Instead, it was Millbrook avenging last year's loss to Garner. The Wildcats improve to 2-0 while the Trojans fall to 2-1.

In other noteworthy games on Friday night, Cleveland (3-0) hammered West Johnston (2-1) 47-0; Holly Springs (1-1) got its first win of the year, beating Fuquay-Varina (2-1) 21-10, and Southeast Raleigh shut out Wake Forest 28-0. Southeast improved to 3-0 while Wake Forest fell to 1-2.
