Two men are behind bars after a Thursday shooting that killed a child at a Burlington apartment complex.

It happened around 8 p.m. near Beaumont Apartments in the 1000 block of Beaumont Court.

Burlington Police said Friday that the incident happened after some people began arguing and shots were subsequently fired.

Officers who responded found a 7-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. According to investigators, he was sitting outside of his apartment when he was hit.

The boy was airlifted to a trauma center and was in critical condition. Burlington Police Department said he died from his injuries Sunday morning.

Tremaine Armstrong, 18, of Burlington, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder. Kemontae Crosby, 21, of Graham, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder.

They were taken into custody without incident Friday.

According to witnesses, the child was not involved in the nearby incident and was an unintended victim.
