Sharpsburg Mayor Robert Williams again charged with DWI
The mayor of Sharpsburg has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated -- and this isn't the first time it's happened.Rocky Mount Police said they received an anonymous call around 5:30 p.m. Monday about a reckless driver on North Wesleyan Boulevard.When they found the vehicle and pulled the driver over, he was identified as Sharpsburg Mayor Robert Williams.Williams was charged with DWI, driving with his license revoked, having an open container, and a concealed handgun permit violation.He was also arrested for DWI in 2018 just hours after being elected mayor.Sharpsburg is situated in parts of Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties.
Brier Creek crime spike sparks community forum with Raleigh Police, city leaders
On Monday, dozens of Brier Creek residents and business owners gathered for an open forum with Raleigh Police to discuss crime trends in the area and how they can combat them. Rural Wendell community seeks more precautions following shooting that killed woman

2-year-old killed in Durham drive-by shooting identified
The 2-year-old girl shot and killed in Durham on June 20 has been identified as Manariah.A GoFundMe has been set up by her family and friends to help cover costs of a funeral.Manariah was one of three people shot on East Cornwallis Road."Our sweet 2 year old, with a smile that would light up the room, is now gone and all we have are the memories of our sweet little girl," the GoFundMe organizer wrote about Manariah.Maranriah's mom was also among the people injured in the shooting.The GoFundMe said Manariah is also survived by her 3-year-old sister.Video from the night of the shooting revealed that it was a drive-by shooting between two vehicles. North Carolina state government is seeking to rid potentially billions in medical debt from low- and middle-income residents by offering a financial carrot for hospitals to take unpaid bills off the books and to implement policies supporting future patients.Democratic Gov. Dead body found underwater near West Point on the Eno, Durham police say
A body was found Saturday submerged in water near West Point on the Eno, according to Durham Police Department.Before 8:30 p.m., officers were called to the 5100 block of N Roxboro Street for a reported dead person. Power back on for many customers in Durham, Wake and other counties after trees fall on power lines
Electricity has been restored to most customers across multiple counties in central North Carolina.Duke Energy workers spent the morning on Lakeview Drive clearing trees that fell on some power lines causing dozens to lose power.According to the Duke Energy outage map, only a few dozen homes lost power in that area because of it.Sunday night storms led to downed trees that fell or power linesThe peak of the outages was around 5:30 p.m., according to a Duke Energy map.
