Monday morning's Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity sparked immediate reaction from both ends of the political spectrum.In a 6-3 decision along ideological lines, the court found presidents are protected by immunity in certain, though not all, situations."The Court said for core presidential acts, there's absolute immunity. Several new laws went into effect on July 1, 2024, in North Carolina including new Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) fees.There are nearly 90 license and registration-related fees that drivers will pay more for.DMV fees increaseAccording to a news release from DMV, fees are going up 19%. 2-year-old killed in Durham drive-by shooting identified
The 2-year-old girl shot and killed in Durham on June 20 has been identified as Manariah.A GoFundMe has been set up by her family and friends to help cover costs of a funeral.Manariah was one of three people shot on East Cornwallis Road."Our sweet 2 year old, with a smile that would light up the room, is now gone and all we have are the memories of our sweet little girl," the GoFundMe organizer wrote about Manariah.Maranriah's mom was also among the people injured in the shooting.The GoFundMe said Manariah is also survived by her 3-year-old sister.Video from the night of the shooting revealed that it was a drive-by shooting between two vehicles. North Carolina state government is seeking to rid potentially billions in medical debt from low- and middle-income residents by offering a financial carrot for hospitals to take unpaid bills off the books and to implement policies supporting future patients.Democratic Gov. Attorney of driver involved in Garner crash waives court appearance
The suspect in a Garner crash that killed an entire family is expected back in court Monday.An arraignment was scheduled for 25-year-old Jordan Porter, but his attorney waived his appearance.Garner Police Department said in May, he was driving while impaired to work when he hit the Cambell family's car on US 70 Hwy and New Rand Road. Dead body found underwater near West Point on the Eno, Durham police say
A body was found Saturday submerged in water near West Point on the Eno, according to Durham Police Department.Before 8:30 p.m., officers were called to the 5100 block of N Roxboro Street for a reported dead person. A 911 caller reported finding the body of a man in the water.The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, DPD confirmed.The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.No further details were available.

Power back on for many customers in Durham, Wake and other counties after trees fall on power lines
Electricity has been restored to most customers across multiple counties in central North Carolina.Duke Energy workers spent the morning on Lakeview Drive clearing trees that fell on some power lines causing dozens to lose power.According to the Duke Energy outage map, only a few dozen homes lost power in that area because of it.Sunday night storms led to downed trees that fell or power linesThe peak of the outages was around 5:30 p.m., according to a Duke Energy map. 2 men die in Tarboro shooting, Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office says
Two people died in a shooting in Tarboro Sunday morning.Just after 3 a.m., the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office responded to a call saying several people were shot at Branchwood Lane.According to authorities, deputies found two men dead. They were later identified as Odis Ray Draughn III, 29, and Tellton Jaymel Jones, 28.They also found a third victim, the sheriff's office said, and they were taken to ECU Health with a gunshot wound.ABC11 is working to learn the name of the third victim.This is an ongoing investigation.
