Fayetteville Public Works Commission receives additional $30M to develop PFAS treatment facilities
The Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC) received $30 million in state and federal funding to help remove PFAS in the city's water.According to a Friday press release, this is in addition to the previously announced funding. To date, PWC has been awarded more than $60 million toward its $80 million project developing Granulated Activated Carbon facilities. The project is expected to be finished in 2028.PWC also got $1 million to go towards its program Operation Clean & Clear to inventory water service lines to comply with the recent changes in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Lead & Copper Rule.SEE ALSO...

Rabies notice issued in Wake County after fox bites woman
A rabies notice was issued in Wake County after a fox bit a woman Thursday in Knightdale.It happened in a neighborhood near the corner of Kemp Drive and Hodge Road. According to Wake County, the woman attempted to break up a fight between the fox and a cat.Wake County Public Health and Wake County Animal Control confirmed the fox was captured and later tested positive for rabies.The cat involved has not been located yet.No other incidents have been reported in connection with the fox or cat. North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's only chief of staff during his two terms is leaving her post in the final months of the administration for a move to the private sector. Motorcyclist dies after crashing into two vehicles on Durham highway, police say
A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Friday afternoon in Durham.The Durham Police Department said officers responded to reports of a crash involving a motorcycle just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of NC Highway 98 and Chandler Road.Police said a man on a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle was driving east on NC Highway 98 when the front end of the motorcycle hit the back of a Jeep that was stopped and waiting to turn left onto Chandler Road. After hitting the Jeep, the motorcycle crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and collided with the front of a 2018 Nissan work van.The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. 1 sickened in NC, dozens fall ill from listeria possibly linked to deli meat in multiple states
One person from North Carolina is sick in a multi-state Listeria outbreak possibly connected to deli meat, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.The CDC said many people in the outbreak reported eating meat sliced at deli counters prior to getting sick. Twenty-eight people have been infected in 12 states, including North Carolina. The two missing Florida children previously believed to be in Wake County were found safe, WTXL, an ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, reported.According to WTXL, no details have been shared about where they were located.Caden Barber Jr. and Marina Baber -- previously thought to be in danger -- are 7 and 9 years old respectively.
