On Tuesday night, the Wake County School Board approved an updated version of Title IX in the district that broadens protections around sex-based discrimination and harassment based on gender identity. Raleigh's tallest skyscraper to be built in Glenwood South district
Plans are moving forward for what will be Raleigh's tallest skyscraper.A new mixed-use complex will be based around the Pine State Creamery plant, a historic two-story "Art moderne" building in Raleigh's Glenwood South district.The project's developer, New York-based company Turnbridge Equities, told ABC11's newsgathering partner News and Observer that most of the brick building will remain as the tower's cornerstone. The remainder of the building will be developed into a mix of office space, residential units, and retail shops.The residential unit, Highline Glenwood, is zoned to be 37 stories making it the tallest building in the city, according to Jason Davis, managing director at Turnbridge Equities.Turnbridge Equities plans to break ground on the project in late 2024.

Raleigh Mayor Pro Tem withdraws from race to replace Mary-Ann Baldwin
One of the favorites to replace Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin announced Wednesday he would drop out of the race.Mayor Pro Tem Corey Branch announced at the State Street Community Church that he would withdraw from the mayoral race in order to seek re-election on the Raleigh City Council.Branch said he was urged by his constituents to serve on the City Council instead of the mayor's office.Wednesday night, Branch said he was not putting his support behind any candidate at this time.Branch has served on the City Council for nearly 10 years -- twice as Mayor Pro Tem. Sources told ABC11 that he previously proudly said he was the first person to file to run for mayor this election.Branch's decision to drop out of the mayoral race leaves four candidates on the ballot at this time: James Shaughnessy, Eugene Myric, Paul Fitts and Janet Cowell.

Suspect arrested, charged with first-degree murder in Chapel Hill shooting
A man was killed in an early morning shooting on Wednesday in Chapel Hill.The Chapel Hill Police Department said the shooting happened in the 100 block of Ashley Forest Road just after 1 a.m. When officers arrived they found Adam Abdur-Rahman, 37, of Chapel Hill with a gunshot wound.He was taken to UNC Hospital where he later died.Police said Mario Chrishunn Thompson, 45, of Chapel Hill, was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of discharge weapon into occupied property.Thompson is being held at the Orange County Detention Center without bond.Anyone with information should call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). Truck overturns, spills barbecue sauce at ramp onto Raleigh Beltline
A tractor-trailer carrying barbecue sauce overturned on a Wade Avenue ramp and caused a big traffic headache Tuesday morning around 6.The ramp to get onto I-440 was blocked off while crews worked to clear the tractor-trailer from the road.Drivers were forced to continue up Wade Avenue so they could turn around and get on the Beltline another way.It's not known what caused the accident, but it took crews hours to clean up the mess and move the truck away.
