Woman dead, man in custody after shooting in Scottsdale

A woman is dead and an Arizona State University professor is in custody after a shooting Saturday evening in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale police say they were called to a home near 130th Street and Shea Boulevard for what was originally reported as an accidental shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 46-year-old Susan Yijuan Yan with gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

Scottsdale police have identified the suspect as David Zhu. He was arrested and booked for one count of first-degree murder.

Police say the victim was the suspect's wife.

The couple's adult daughter and teenage son were also home at the time of the shooting.

David Zhu is listed on Arizona State University's website as a professor at the W.P. Carey School of Business. ASU confirmed to ABC15 that as of Sunday, Zhu is still employed at the university.

The university sent the following statement:

“Our condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy.”

The shooting remains under investigation.
