(WHTM) — Lower Paxton Township celebrated National Night for Public Safety Tuesday night.

This comes one week after many National Night Out celebrations were postponed due to storms.

“Well, that was really unfortunate,” said Chris Judd with Lower Paxton Townships board of supervisors. “For tonight we decree that the weather was going to be beautiful, and the weather is beautiful.”

While enjoying the weather, community members had the opportunity to meet Lower Paxton Township first responders.

“It’s just a great time for us to display all of our emergency vehicles, emergency equipment time for our first responders and departments of public safety to really engage with the public,” added Lt. Autumn Lupey, with the Lower Paxton twp. Police Department.

The public also got to see these public safety officials in action.

“The reason we’re doing it is because when people think of the fire departments, they often think about stretching hose lines and put fires out or going to vehicle accidents,” said Brett Graham, Lower Paxton twp. Deputy Fire Chief. “But our volunteers are actually trained and much more than.”

Some people attend the event annually, for others it was their first time.

“My first night out was amazing as always, I love being part of the community, any community I join its really awesome,” said Ezra Ranco. “Being around a lot people, you know, people you never met before you, you get to interact and have fun and being a father and a dedicated husband its really great to bring the family out and have something to do and to see Lower Paxton being amazing, is amazing.”
