LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Lancaster County is moving forward with its plan to build a new prison.

It’ll be just outside the southern part of Lancaster, where a field is now. The prison board met Thursday and worked on the design. The new one will have room for mental health counseling and treatment.

The prison board wants public feedback on the plans.

“It’s a very needed project, also a big project,” county commissioner Josh Parsons said. “Ultimately, it’s about the public safety of Lancaster County. And we want to make sure that at every stage as we go through this process, that we’re getting public comment, public feedback, making sure that we’re not missing anything.”
