HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) released its preliminary employment situation report for July.

The report showed that Pa.’s unemployment rate remained unchanged over the month, staying at 3.4% in July. This was the tenth consecutive month at 3.4% and remains under the U.S. employment rate, which is 4.3%.

The Commonwealth’s unemployment rate was two-tenths of a percentage point above its record low July 2023 level of 3.2%, while the national rate was up eight-tenths of a percentage point over the year.

The report also showed that Pa.’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, was down 1,000 over the month to 6,602,000 in July. The decline was due to a drop in resident employment, which was also down 1,000, according to L&I.
