An amusement park ride at Waldameer Park malfunctioned on Saturday resulting in minor injuries to some riders.

Steve Gorman, the park’s president, said the flying swings malfunctioned after the ride swung riders too far out and the ride did not come down properly.

He said a child appeared to be in distress on the swings, which prompted an operator to stop the ride mid-cycle. The malfunction gave some riders non-life-threatening feet injuries and some were taken to the hospital.

Gorman explained that a state inspector examined the ride Sunday and the park has contacted the ride’s manufacturer to make sure the malfunction doesn’t happen again.

“We’re unhappy that anyone gets hurt at our park, and I feel bad for those people who were injured, I suffer with them. We think safety is priority one. People have to be safe when they come here,” said Gorman.

He went on to say the swings could be open Monday at the earliest but expects it to reopen on Tuesday.
