ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A large stash of counterfeit cash was discovered in an Adams County storage unit, and State Police say a man is facing charges.

Close to $50,000 in fake cash was found in a storage unit, located along Hanover Road in Mount Pleasant Township, that used to belong to 56-year-old Jeffrey Hammond, 56, according to the charges filed by State Police.

Troopers say the fake cash was found by the owner of the storage unit on April 29, after they sold it because Hammond stopped paying for it. When individuals were clearing it out, they found the fake money.

Among the counterfeit money, there was the following:

• Marked replica bills
• Altered replica bills with the word replica scratched off
• One sided printed bills
• Counterfeit legal tender cash
• Sheets of misprint and uncut cash

In total, there was $41,718 of cut cash and about $13,968 worth of uncut bills, according to the charges. Among the stash was a work ID badge, health insurance card, and access card that belonged to Hammond.

The Secret Service was then contacted to find businesses where the fake cash would have been used. According to the charges, it was discovered that the money was used at WellSpan, the county’s prothonotary office for a landlord/tenant dispute, and Members 1st.

Hammond faces multiple felony charges of trademark counterfeiting and forgery, along with a misdemeanor charge of theft.
