LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The burglary suspect who was shot by police in Lancaster County Tuesday night robbed a spa business and allegedly raped two employees before trying to run away, according to the county’s DA’s office.

Charges of robbery, rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with forcible compulsion and sexual assault were filed on Thursday against Christopher Rivera, 36, of Middletown, court documents show.

Rivera ran out of the back of the Calm Spa, located in Penn Town Shopping Center in the 1200 block of Lancaster Road, once Lancaster County Regional Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 8:17 p.m. after they were dispatched for an ongoing burglary, according to new details released by the Lancaster County DA’s office

Prior to police arriving at the scene, the DA’s office said Rivera had entered the business but was told it was closed. Rivera then pulled out a gun and pointed it at an employee while demanding money. He was given $10 but said that wasn’t enough so the employee gave him $800 from the store.

The workers were then told by Rivera to enter a massage room where he made them undress, and then he allegedly proceeded to rape and sexually assault them, according to the DA’s office.

There was video camera footage from the business that captured the robbery. On it, Rivera can be seen pointing a gun at the employees and directing them into the massage room, the release states.

There was body camera footage that captured Rivera ignoring commands to stop and pulling out what appeared to be a firearm from his waistband while trying to run away. According to the release, an officer then shot Rivera and other officers began to render first aid before he was able to be rushed to the hospital.

The weapon was recovered at the scene and was determined to be a black pellet gun that looked like a handgun, the DA’s office said.

Rivera is currently in the hospital but he was arraigned with bail set at $1,000,000.

There was a witness in the store during the time of the robbery that detectives are looking for who alerted someone else of the robbery happening.
