(WHTM) — A man had to be flown to the hospital after his girlfriend intentionally hit him with a car at Round Top Campground in Gettysburg early Sunday morning, police say.

Lauren Welch, 23, of North Carolina, allegedly hit her boyfriend with a car while he was walking through the campground after the two had gotten into an argument before 1 a.m., according to the charges filed by Cumberland Township Police.

Adams County Control gave police a description of the striking vehicle, the driver, later identified to be Welch, and that the vehicle stayed at the scene for a little bit before going back to a camper, according to the criminal complaint.

First responders rushed to the man who reported that Welch had hit him and that she tried to run him over multiple times before. Police said that he was on the ground, screaming and complaining of pain in his lower back, hip, leg and ankle.

Eventually, the man was flown by helicopter to York Hospital because he had no feeling from his waist down, no reflexes on the bottom on his feet, and he was talking about having severe lower back pain, police said in the complaint.

Police were able to talk with witnesses and learned that Welch was still at the camper. The striking vehicle, a 2018 silver Hyundai Elantra, was found at the campsite she was staying at with her boyfriend, the charges show.

While talking with police, Welch said she was in an argument with her boyfriend, he left, and she followed him in the car, trying to get him in the vehicle before leaving him. However, when she was told that she was seen hitting him, Welch stated multiple times that she may have hit him, the complaint states.
