(WHTM) — Tonight’s Hometown Hero put himself to the test at his own fundraiser today.

Joe Holston is a board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region, a non-profit specializing in mentorship programs. In 2020, he began playing over 100 holes of golf in a day to raise money for the group. This year, he decided to up the ante.

At Manada Golf Club, he played 6 rounds—108 holes—using only 3 clubs and no putter. Holston hopes to raise $75,000 today for the mentoring program.

“We won’t just match you up and say go off and do your own thing, you have to be matched with someone with supervision,” Holston said about the programs. “You need to do the criminal background checks, and you need to keep working with the kids, the parents, and the volunteers because it’s really three people involved in this relationship, and you have to take care of them and answer all their questions and concerns.”

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region” helps children in seven midstate counties.
