HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Police have filed charges against a man in connection to the deadly Harrisburg shooting in August that killed a 17-year-old former Steelton-Highspire School District student .

Rashad Neal, 30, of Harrisburg, faces charges in the Aug. 12 shooting along the 1700 block of Regina Street that killed Antoine Byers, according to court documents filed from Harrisburg City Police.

According to a criminal complaint, Neal was part of a group that arrived in the area looking for a friend when they saw Byers fire three shots at their friend.

Police say video showed Neal and another man who has not been charged at this time, got out of the vehicle and pulled out handguns. A witness said they saw Neal use a 9mm handgun to fatally shoot Byers and police noted video showed muzzle flashes coming from the gun used by Neal.

Police spoke to the second person who exited the vehicle who said they attempted to shoot at Byers but the gun did not fire and he fled. They then told police they assumed Rashad found a stored Glock 9mm under the front passenger seat and used it to shoot Byers.

Police said that multiple attempts at trying to call Neal were unsuccessful. It was also learned that he had disabled his Facebook after learning that Byers died.

Cell phone records showed that Neal was in the area during the time of the shooting and that his phone was in North Carolina. Police noted that Neal had been convicted of murder in North Carolina in 2017, making him ineligible to have a gun.

Multiple felony firearm charges, as well as theft and fleeing charges, were filed against Neal on Friday. Court records show that Neal has not yet been arrested.
