NANTICOKE, Pa. (WBRE/WYOU) — Fall foliage, pumpkin patches, cider, and campfires. Many people in northeastern Pennsylvania know the tell-tale signs that the fall season is upon us. But one autumnal treat you may not be as familiar with; pumpkin pie’rogi.

NEPA’rogi in Nanticoke is combining two local favorite foods into one. They recently started making what they’re calling “pumpkin pie’rogi”, a pierogi-like shell stuffed with pumpkin pie filling.

“It’s a fun fusion of the original pierogi and the fall dessert,” says Lauren Gorney, owner, NEPA’rogi.

Gorney said that you can fry them up like any other pierogi, but that the “pumpkin pie’rogi” is more like a crepe than a traditional pierogi. NEPA’rogi made a special dessert dough used for the shell and has a baked-from-scratch pumpkin pie filling.

“It’s a perfect replacement for pumpkin pie for your dessert,” said Gorney.

Gorney said they plan on making more seasonal pierogi as the seasons go by and are “blending tradition with new fun ideas”.

NEPA’rogi offers hot fried pierogi every Friday, variously filled pierogi, American pierogi casserole, and haluski.

NEPA’rogi is located at 164 South Market Street in Nanticoke and is open on Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
