ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A man is facing charges for trying to lure a teenage girl into his vehicle while she was walking along an Adams County street, police say.

It was around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 16. when police say the girl noticed a man, later identified to be Lopez Nomberto, carry a box into a home, located along South Queen Street. He was staring back at her and then got into a vehicle as she continued walking, according to police.

Lopez Nomberto allegedly drove up alongside the teen and waved at her to get in, but he did not say anything. Police said, she ignored him and kept walking, but when she turned to walk on a different street, he followed her and parked with his passenger door slightly open, still waving at her to get in.

The girl, frightened, then ran. She was able to find a good Samaritan who was walking and agreed to take her home after she told him she was being followed, according to the charges. She pointed at the vehicle Lopez Nomberto was in, saying he was following her, and it sped away.

Police were told by the girl that she thought Lopez Nomberto was trying to abduct her, and the way he was staring at her was “frightening,” the charges state. She reported seeing him at the home, and provided a description of the man along with the vehicle to police.

While at the home, police say they saw a Honda CRV with no active registration and spoke with Lopez Nomberto, who allegedly admitted to driving around the area after carrying boxes inside the home. However, he denied ever seeing the girl.

The good Samaritan was interviewed and was able to confirm the girl’s story, police said.

It was noted in the charges that Lopez Nomberto did not possess a driver’s license.

Lopez Nomberto faces a misdemeanor charge of luring a child into a motor vehicle and a summary charge of driving without a license.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
