YORK, Pa. (WHTM) — Multiple events are scheduled to be held in York County to bring awareness to domestic violence.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month began Thursday morning with a gathering in front of the York YWCA, 320 E. Market Street.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month raises awareness for victims and survivors of domestic violence,” according to a news release. “Domestic Violence violates an individual’s privacy, dignity, security, and humanity due to the senseless use of physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse, and economic control. One in three women and one in four men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. In Pennsylvania, 119 victims lost their lives to domestic violence last year.”
