ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A dog was abandoned by its owner at the Adams County SPCA Wednesday morning, and officials are asking for the public’s help trying to find him.

The SPCA took to Facebook and shared that a man brought a large Rottweiler into the building around 10:30 a.m., claiming he found the dog on Mummasburg Road outside Gettysburg. The man claimed that he just found the dog as he was driving down the road.

However, the dog was comfortable with him, as it was staying between his legs, the post states.

While filling out intake papers, he had to provide his license which he claimed he left out in his truck. He ended up getting in the truck, which had a covered-up license plate, and drove away.

Officials want everyone to know that there is a difference between abandoning, and surrendering your pet.

“I know everyone is going to have their own opinion about this situation however the fact is, it’s against the law to abandon an animal in the state of PA,” the post states. “Bringing the dog to a shelter and saying the dog is a “stray” and it’s your dog or you know who is the owner, is against the law!”

Pennsylvania may be getting a new official holiday

Reports also came in about the dog attacking a mail carrier and a small child, the SPCA wrote. Anyone with information on who the man is, is asked to contact them at 717-334-8876 ext. 22.

“If you want to get a pet, know the breed and train the dog,” the SPCA added. “Rottweilers can be great family dogs, when trained properly. People keep going out a getting cute puppies and once they aren’t so cute anymore, you have a 100 pound monster on your hands.”

And how do you abandon’ them at a place that gets $100,000’s a year to have an open door policy like other SPCA’s! They like to say they are private but their taxes clearly show that’s a lie. And they are not supposed to refuse ANY ANIMALS! And you can’t take them to another shelter when you live in Adams County!
