(WHTM) — Many Pennsylvanians, including Governor Josh Shapiro, are color-blind, so he sought to help people see some color at a state park as fall approaches.

The state is installing color-correcting viewfinders at Moshannon State Park in Centre County to help people, like Scott Kolesar, who are colorblind enjoy Pennsylvania’s beautiful fall foliage.

“I don’t know what a color truly looks like, I guess most of the time. Over the years, I have learned color by object association and what color the object should be,” said Kolesar. “I must say even without much color yet during my visit this past weekend, the trees here at Black Moshannon popped out in my amazement, almost to the point there might have been a tear forming. My experience was one of a kid at Christmas. This is an amazing addition to an already wonderful park.”

“Whether it’s folks like me and Scott who have trouble seeing the beauty or whether it’s folks who show up in a wheelchair or it’s folks who need a little bit of assistance walking, whatever it is, we’re trying to make our outdoor spaces way more accessible for all Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro said.

The viewfinders will be installed in ten state parks and forests across the Pennsylvania Wilds. Over a million Pennsylvanians are colorblind.
