UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) – Centre County United Way’s Over the Edge event brought together people of all ages to help support a great cause.

People who raised enough money were able to rappel down the side of Penn State’s Beaver Stadium. Those not a fan of heights could stay on the ground to cheer others on. For some, it was their first time. Others were experienced veterans, like 104-year-old George Etzweiler.

“It’s no problem. I just sit there,” Etzweiler said.

Etzweiler rappelling down the stadium is a rare sight to see, and even rarer is that it was not his first time going over the edge. He participated in 2023 as well.

“I’m not afraid of heights,” Etzweiler said.

All the money raised through the event goes toward United Way. They say that their mission is to “help organizations that help people” according to their website. The people going over do it because of the cause.

“We are huge supporters of United Way,” Shelly Wike, a participant, said. “This was just another way to give back to our community.”
